Garnock Pool. Katy Clark MP has voiced concern over future plans for Garnock Swimming Pool.Speaking on the matter, Katy said, "I am extremely concerned that there are proposals to reduce the hours at Garnock swimming pool and that in particular that there are proposals to cut the hours for the small pool. We should be doing everything we can to encourage kids to take exercise and be encouraging free swimming rather than cutting hours. I am also extremely concerned about the proposal to take away reception staff which are essential for security and to supervise kids using the facilities. I strongly urge North Ayrshire Leisure to reconsider their decision to reduce services in this way."She continued, "Just some of the benefits of this facility include swimming lessons for the community and rehabilitation for those who are suffering from injuries or physical disorders. I would be greatly disappointed if my constituents were deprived this facility and I hope these proposals go no further."

Garnock Pool Kilbirnie and Beith councillors Jean Highgate and John Bell have demanded KA Leisure rethink their proposals to reduce opening hours and reception cover at Garnock Pool, in a letter to KA Leisure Chief Executive Frank Keddilty.  The councillors raise concerns about the security of pool users, the lack of consultation with users groups. They also point out the installation of a new play facility in front of the pool and the opportunity to expand pool usage which would be lost if hours are cut.

Garnock Pool. KA Leisure have proposed changing the pools operating hours by closing earlier with a weekly reduction of 5.5 hours. They also plan to install automatic ticket machines and reduce the hours for the training pool. Concerned users have started a petition to ask the KA Leisure Board to reconsider these moves, as they are concerned at the long term future if these measures are imposed. The petition is available in a number of local shops.10/10/08

The company planning to build a large Windfarm in Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park have been found guilty of breaching advertising standards in a leaflet to local residents in the Garnock Valley. Ironically Wind Hydrogen Ltd, an Australian company, has recently been invited to take part in the Scottish government's energy inquiry. The ASA said that the brochure was misleading because it wrongly stated that the wind farm and hydrogen plant proposal was already being considered for £10million government funding. The ASA also ruled that they made unsubstantiated claims for the environmental benefits of “electricity balancing” using hydrogen and wrongly claimed that that electricity generated by the wind farm would be directly used at the hydrogen plant, rather than via the National Grid. 4/6/08
